Five-a-side tourney a great success

On Sunday twelve teams took part in a five-a-side tournament in Paisley just outside Glasgow to raise funds for the Sam English Commemoration Committee which is looking to mark the centenary of Aghadowey man Sam English’s birth.

Sam’s grandson Douglas Cree was presented with a shield bearing the coat of arms of Coleraine Borough Council which was a gift from outgoing Lord Mayor Maurice Bradley.

Three of Sam’s great-grandsons played in the tournament. Presenting the trophy to the winners East End Blues Douglas Cree said “A big thanks to all the players for taking part in such a wonderful spirit and for making the day such a celebration of my grandfather’s life.”
